The name says it all; he’s a scheming, amoral, wily bastard who has not survived this long by accident.

Disarmingly charming, he’s come out of hiding for one big score: juggling the FBI and CIA in a very dangerous game of extortion. When his hired guns end up dead, he effortlessly shifts to Cookie and Dolly, coopting them into his scheme.

Comes off like any other hard luck waitress story; stranded in the middle of nowhere; faded into the background of everyone else’s drama.

When her reveal comes, it’s surprising, but not at all out of left field; she’s a paid assassin, there to kill The Sonofabitch. She and Cookie evolve from mutual obstacles into adversaries - and then into temporary allies. Forging a mutual respect with Cookie, she makes a subtle and unsentimental adjustment to her mercenary nature - helping bring the movie to a moral conclusion.

At first glance, Cookie is the archetypal short order cook; a low-key guy with a deadpan sense of humor and the vibe of ex-con; keeping his head down and trying to stay out of trouble.

But when trouble comes into the diner - in the form of mercenary gunman and rogue FBI agents, he sheds one layer after another…revealing a sly charisma, violent skills, and a knack for psychological manipulation. And, far from happenstance, his presence in the diner is the culmination of a slow burning agenda - to grab the mysterious Sonofabitch.
